Until Next Year
We have now been home a month, settled in to home and the chores that go with home ownership. We have rested and spent time with family, including a two week road trip to meet a new granddaughter and to spend Thanksgiving in the beautiful Gatineau area.
As you can see, I am just now writing this final chapter.
Our last few days in Newfoundland were spent in Corner Brook, where friends Cheryl and Carolyn took us to visit The Bay of Islands, where we had planned to spend our last days sailing, wintering Seabiscuit at the Bay of Islands Yacht Club.
You are already aware of the reasons for that not happening, so I won’t regale you again.
We chose a lovely, warm, sunny day for our trip to Lark Harbour and the western shore where we savoured a delightful picnic at Bottle Cove, followed by beach combing and hiking up the stunning Southhead Lighthouse Trail, the rugged shore of the North Atlantic just a misstep below.
Guernsey Island, Tweed Island and Pearl Island marking the entrance to the Bay of Islands can be seen in the distance as we return to Corner Brook along Humber Bay’s south arm. Wood’s Island was to be an anchorage for us but now is only a long flat island we can say we saw but did not visit.
My desk holds a small pile of inventory lists, contact information and harbour reports - all waiting for me to wrap up the 2021 cruise and to begin the plans for next year when we hope to return to Port Saunders to prepare Seabiscuit for launch.
The harbours I will investigate this winter will include some on the Northern Peninsula before we cross the Strait of Belle Isle, taking us to Labrador. Crossing the Strait again after our Labrador visits, we will cruise down the east side of the Northern Peninsula, followed by many stops in Notre Dame Bay with our final destination being Lewisporte.
Harald and I wish to thank all those who followed our journey this year. I have to apologize to anyone who anxiously awaited the next chapters while I anxiously awaited internet service. Your interest in our daily account encouraged me to keep writing and sharing.
It has been our pleasure to share the tale with descriptions of the places we visited, the people we met and the adventures aboard a sailboat. Since we have been home we have enjoyed answering your questions and sharing more photos.
It is our hope you will tune in again next June as we travel back to Newfoundland to begin the second chapter of this awesome journey we are so privileged to be part of.
